Cricketqube Initiative CIC
Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):
Cricketqube Initiative CIC was established in 2023 to make cricket accessible, inclusive and culturally responsive for communities across the North East. We began by delivering sessions in care homes and community centres and have since expanded to provide intergenerational Family Cricket and Walking Cricket for older people, designed to reduce isolation, improve well-being and strengthen community connection. We also deliver sessions for children and young people. Our vision is to remove barriers to physical activity—cost, confidence, culture, mobility—and to create safe, welcoming spaces where people of all ages and backgrounds can be active together. We use cricket as a simple, adaptable and enjoyable tool to support physical health, mental wellbeing and community cohesion.
2. Who do you serve? How do they access services?
We work with children, young people, ethnically diverse families, women and girls, care home residents, older adults (50+), and communities experiencing deprivation. Participants access our sessions through community hubs, care homes, local partners, GP referrals and open sign-ups via our website.
3. What are you current projects or services?
Our core programmes include Walking Cricket for over-50s in Newcastle, Gateshead and Hebburn, Family Cricket in Byker, Cowgate and Kenton, Youth Cricket in Gateshead, Children’s Cricket in Newcastle, Gateshead and Wallsend and Care Home Sport across the region. We are also starting new women’s and girls’ cricket and Youth Cricket in Gateshead. We also collaborate with health partners and VCSE organisations on well-being, socialisation and healthy ageing projects.
4. What are your three main concerns at the moment?
- Increasing demand for accessible, low-cost wellbeing activities.
- Rising venue and staffing costs across community settings.
- Ensuring sustainable funding to maintain and expand our inclusive programmes.
