Nourish Food School
1. Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):
Nourish Food School is a Newcastle-based mobile cookery school that works across the North East popping up in community venues and working in partnership with other VCSE organisations. Our aim is to positively shape the way people see, eat and experience food no matter what their circumstances are and where food can be a tool for bringing people together and supporting overall wellbeing. Our small team have been delivering cookery classes for over 15 years in Newcastle and we welcome volunteers to support in classes too.
2. Who do you serve? How do they access services?
Nourish deliver food skills, learning and social cooking opportunities for people in the more disadvantaged communities from every corner of our communities and who may be facing barriers to cooking and eating well. We are here to support anyone who is could benefit from cooking alongside others whether that is for health or social connection. It’s for people who are new to cooking and those who are confident cooks but can enjoy the experience of cooking and supporting others. Free classes are advertised locally and on our website nourishfoodschool.co.uk and we do ask that people book a space before arriving whether thats booking online, dropping us an email or giving us a call.
3. What are you current projects or services?
We are thrilled to be working in partnership with the North East Migration Partnership to bring together people from Hong Kong, Ukraine, and Afghanistan with local Newcastle residents through the shared experience of cooking. Each session focuses on either classic North East recipes or dishes from participants’ home countries, with a key emphasis on understanding how to cook with food and ingredients that are easily accessible in Newcastle.
The project helps people who may be new to Newcastle to navigate the local food scene while sharing their culinary traditions with the wider community. It’s about building confidence in the kitchen, making connections, and discovering how to recreate the flavours of home using what’s available here in the North East.
Classes run until March 2026 at various community venues across Newcastle. We’re always open to partnerships with other groups interested in pop-up cookery experiences.
4. What are your three main concerns at the moment?
