Hate Crime Advocacy service awarded further funding

We are delighted to announce that our Hate Crime Advocacy service has been awarded funding for another 12 months by Northumbria Police & Crime Commissioner, after completing two successful years.

We offer specialist, independent advocacy for anyone who has experienced a hate crime or been targeted on the basis of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability and/or gender identity.

Who can use the service

We accept referrals for anyone over 16 in Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, North and South Tyneside and Northumberland.

Hate crimes include:

  •          Verbal abuse
  •          Harassment
  •          Physical attacks such as hitting, punching, pushing or spitting
  •          Threats of violence
  •          Abusive phone or text messages, or hate mail
  •          Damage to property or graffiti
  •          Online abuse, for example on Facebook or Twitter

We can help by:

  •          Listening to you and understanding what you are going through
  •          Helping you to get information about your rights and options
  •          Supporting you to report hate crimes - if you want to
  •          Giving you a voice and helping you to deal with others (e.g. the police, housing, medical services etc.)
  •          Taking your side

Some of the feedback we’ve had from Service Users:

“Great experience, very helpful, made us feel comfortable and secure”

“Kind knowledgeable staff”

“I could open my heart and share my feelings because I knew there was help, and they would listen and not just shrug their shoulders. Great service”
