Black History Month 2022: Time for change - action not words
This October, the theme for Black History Month is Time for Change: Action not Just Words.
"Yes, Black History Month is a time to celebrate black history, heritage and culture, and the iconic figures that have contributed so much, but this year, let’s make it about so much more. If you’re serious about allyship, it’s Time for Change: Action Not Words."

Race Equality Matters - My Name Is
We were delighted that our early adoption of the My Name Is campaign from Race Equality Matters last year resulted in us being showcased at their official launch event with more than 250 attendees, and even received national press coverage. Using a phonetic spelling, My Name Is offers a simple way for people to feel confident about how to pronounce their colleagues names.
Connected Voice Support and Development Officer, Sara Chezari, made a short video for the My Name Is launch event in which she shares her personal experiences and also talks about the history and meaning behind her name. This year, Race Equality Matters, want to encourage everyone who takes part in the campaign to do something similar - either sharing or learning about the meaning of each other's names in the workplace. They have also created a tool which helps you generate a phonetic spelling of your name with images that you can download and share on social media.
Race Equality Matters - Tea Break: How to do it right
Wednesday 19 October, 12 noon, online
The Tea Break provides the framework and opportunity for an organisation to hear the honest voice and feelings of its colleagues about race inequality.
All employees are invited to a one-hour themed, online discussion about an issue that matters. Typically, through Zoom or Teams platforms, individuals can remain anonymous, listen to others or actively participate – it’s freedom of choice.
This session will cover why Tea Break is needed and how to utilise the guide. This interactive event will include two 10-minute breakout sessions to discuss, share ideas and problem solve potential challenges that could be a barrier for your organisation.
